TOP BRITISH ATHLETE, LESLEY OWUSU TO JOIN BRIGHTHEARTS WEEKENDER

British athlete, Lesley Owusu will be inspiring young people with heart conditions at the Brighthearts Forum ‘Wonderful Weekender’ on the 12th and 13th October, 2013.

The former 400 metre British champion has been confirmed as a speaker at an event in London, bringing together young people from all around the UK. The free weekend, run by the Children’s Heart Federation with The Somerville Foundation will include a day of interactive activities that will provide invaluable support and information for young people living with heart conditions. The event will involve an overnight stay in London hotel and social evening of shopping and bowling.

Sadly many young people can be put off from sport because of their heart conditions and are often not given enough support to be active.

The charities are hoping that the sporting champion’s appearance will encourage more young people to become involved with and enjoy sport.

Lesley Owusu says: “I’m supporting the charity as I am extremely passionate about children. I have dedicated most of my career as an athlete to inspiring children and young people.

“If I can make just one child smile and bring a sense of hope and happiness in their lives it is the greatest gift I can give to a child who has been affected by a congenital or acquired heart condition.”

Victoria Goldsmith, who co-runs the Brighthearts Forum says: “Having someone as inspirational as Lesley Owusu at our Wonderful Weekender will mean a great deal to our young people attending. We are very grateful for her commitment to them and we look forward to welcoming her at our conference in October”.
