Thanks to The Children’s Heart Federation, Tony and I were given the opportunity to run in the RPHM. We had an absolutely amazing day. The course was stunning, running past Buckingham Palace, along the Embankment and through picturesque Hyde Park. The atmosphere was electric and the supportive crowds were very encouraging. All this combined to see us smash our 2:10 target and finish in a fantastic time of 1:58.
Here in 2012 we feel extraordinarily grateful for all the timely intervention and support from the emergency services, the medical staff in the Children’s Heart Unit in Leeds and Southampton and of course friends and family. Our daughter Lily-Rose underwent life saving heart surgery at LGI for a condition called coarctation of the aorta in March 2011. Over the first 10 weeks of her life, Lily’s health deteriorated and following a checkup at the LGI we were promptly referred to the Children’s Heart Unit. She was diagnosed there and then and we were admitted immediately. Lily was stabilised and operated on 2 days later. We cannot praise the team in Leeds highly enough, from the surgeons who operated on her, to the nurses that cared for Lily-Rose and the insurmountable support that myself and Tony were given at this stressful time. In August of the same year, Tony’s son Ed suffered a sudden cardiac arrest whilst we were all on holiday in Weymouth. Thanks to the amazing team in Southampton, Ed survived. Ed and Lily-Rose are now thriving, and for us, we would like to give something back by fundraising for charities that help children with heart defects
Thank you so much to Clare and Tony £3,491.39 for CHF. You have done incredibly well and have achieved a huge amount; with your own personal achievements in finishing with such brilliant times and in raising so much for CHF. You have also really helped to raise awareness of CHF and thank you for your support. Hopefully we’ll see you at the RPHM 2013!
