2nd May CHF visits the Department of Education - Safe in Schools

CHF joined other children’s health charities from the Health conditions in schools alliance and met with  Nadhim Zahawi, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Education.

We requested

For all schools to post their medical conditions policy on their website

and to make this actually happen …

For OFSTED to ensure that a check for a medical conditions policy be part of their inspection

We also shared some examples of best practice and the parent of a child with diabetes spoke of some of the problems her daughter had faced at school.

The Minister suggested again that we as a group ought to find a way to share good practice, it was easy and wouldn’t cost anything. He would tweet from his own work account the Alliance’s best practice video and raise awareness of what the various charities are trying to achieve.

He said to the diabetic child’s mother that heads of schools should have more empathy and should apologise for their poor behaviour.

He said he would speak to OFSTED.

Let’s hope that he will.
